Rock Runner Racing Starts 2008 Season with Win Johnson Valley, California(February 22, 2008)Rock Runner Racing's Joachim Schwiesow finished in fifth place at the inaugural King of the Hammers race in Johnson Valley, California. The unique race format combined rock racing and desert racing in one grueling course that covered 50 miles, including all eight original “Hammers” rockcrawling trail. Schwiesow teamed with Spidertrax founder Eddie Casanueva as his co-pilot for the race, and the duo completed the course in 4 hours and 20 minutes. “Eddie did an amazing job” Schweisow commented following the race. “From navigation to identifying approaching vehicles to monitoring the vehicles vital signs, he was a major contributor to our success.” The race was closed to spectators, but heavy media coverage from Crawl Magazine, Off Road Adventures, Xtreme 4x4 television, Pirate4x4.com, Dirtnewz.com, Race-Dezert.com, Totally Off Road radio, and RP Films kept fans appraised of the race action in real time. ![]() Schweisow was piloting the same vehicle he and teammate Brian Errea use for rockcrawling and rock racing competition, with special preparations made to address the unique format of the King of the Hammers. Only 24 of the 43 vehicles entered completed the race, however the Rock Runner Racing team suffered very little vehicle damage. “We had a little trouble,” admitted Schwiesow, “but we were able to continue and did not suffer any tire failures or break any hard parts.” Such success speaks highly of Rock Runner Racing's sponsors, which include BFGoodrich, Spidertrax, Fox Shox, True Hi9, Detroit Locker, and Trailready rims, amongst others. The next stop for Rock Runner Racing will be the Easter Jeep Safari and the first XRRA event of the season in Moab, Utah.
